A378 closure at Fivehead

The A378 Langport Road will be closed for five weeks over the summer holidays for essential drainage improvements between Wrantage and Fivehead. The area known locally as Mile Hill, has been susceptible to flooding with surface water on the carriageway during times of bad weather and this has prompted Somerset County Council to undertake the work from Monday 31 July. SCC will have  teams laying around 300m of new pipes and building new drains and gullies to help the water drain away faster. This will also allow for resurfacing to take place at a later date. Work is expected to carry on into the first week of September.

Somerset County Council will operate a diversion during the roadworks that will add 20 miles to your journey taking you from the bottom of the hill below Fivehead on the A378, to Thornfalcon, along the A358 towards Ilminster  before heading east along Cad Road before picking up the B3168 to Curry Rivel and completing the square by heading west back along the A378 to Fivehead. Whereas this will be the only viable route for delivery vehicles and lorries, we’re pretty confident that car drivers will rapidly find a much more direct solution!
