Langport Secures Cocklemoor

There will be a fuller piece on this in the September edition of the Leveller, but for now the headline says it all. Langport Town Council have purchased outright, the land between the River Parrett and the back of Bow Street in Langport for £10,000. Known locally as Cocklemoor it is a lovely stretch of grassland and is well used by the community. Gifted to the Environment Agency on its creation, it is of course sad to see one tax payer public authority charging another in order to change ownership. For Langport this is arguably money well spent as it secures Cocklemoor for generations to come. This leaves the town able to preserve and enhance the river banks for the leisure of townsfolk and visitors alike.
