Ilminster seeks councillors
As we mentioned in the June edition of the Leveller, events have conspired to leave 3 vacancies on Ilminster Town Council and it is expected that there will be an election in August to fill these spaces. With that in mind and to encourage people to find out more about what’s involved on 7 July, at 7.30pm at the Minster Rooms, Ilminster, Councillor Val Keitch the Mayor of Ilminster Town Council will be hosting an evening for local people. Apart from finding out what they might be letting themselves in for, the evening will also explain how to take the first tentative steps towards making it happen.
The Mayor explains “If you are interested in becoming a councillor, or know someone who could be persuaded to stand for election just come along to the evening to find out more about what is involved; there is no need book. We will be talking about the highs and lows of being a Councillor, the sort of work the Town Council gets involved in and giving an overview of the election process.”
To stand as an Ilminster Town Councillor you need to be British or a citizen of the Commonwealth or European Union, at least 18 years old and registered to vote in Ilminster or have lived, worked or owned property here for at least 12 months before the election.
