Charlie Broadway update

This afternoon the police issued the following statement in connection with the incident at Ilton last night:

Shortly before 8pm last night, we were called to Chubbards Cross Caravan site, near Ilton in Somerset, following reports of a shooting. A man in his 50s was fatally wounded and died at the scene. A second man, in his 20s, was also injured and received hospital treatment. He doesn’t have life threatening injuries.

As a result of our enquiries, we quickly identified Charlie Broadway, a 23 year old local man, as someone we need to find in connection with this incident. Firstly, I want to reassure our local communities that this was a domestic incident, contained to one site. All those involved were known to each other.

Every available resource we have, including the National Police Air Service helicopter, is being used to locate and arrest Charlie Broadway but I would appeal directly to him to hand himself in now. We don’t believe that he poses a significant risk to the wider community but anyone who sees him should not approach him but call us immediately on 999. We have arrested a man and a woman in connection with this incident and both are currently in police custody.

Charlie is described as a white man, with dark hair and a beard. We are not sure of the clothes he was wearing last night. Anyone wishing to report any sightings of Charlie should contact us immediately via 999, quoting log number 1051 of 5 May.”
