SSDC warns on bogus telephone calls
Bogus calls are being made to businesses and ordinary members of the public in South Somerset telling them they are due a Council Tax refund and asking for their bank details. South Somerset District Council are aware of the scam and want to warn residents and businesses not to give out personal or bank details over the phone.
If you get a call from someone saying they are from the Council and asking for your bank details to give you a refund, their advice is DON’T!
Ask the caller for their name and telephone number and say you will call them back, then telephone South Somerset District Council (SSDC) on 01935 462462 and ask for the Revenues Team. The Team can check your account to see if you are due a refund and let you know how it will be paid.
If you pay your Council Tax to SSDC by direct debit, then they will already have your bank details. And if you pay by another method, they would send you a refund cheque.
