Langport bank raid update
More information on the bank raid in which an ATM machine was stolen from the Nat West branch on Bow Street, Langport at just gone midnight on Sunday 17th August. The thieves escaped with a sum believed to be around £30,000.
We understand that the wall with the ATM in it was rammed repeatedly by a black car. In the course of the raid, thieves used what the police describe as “a volatile substance” around the ATM some of which was left in situ after they made their getaway. It appears the police arrived in response to calls from residents as the alarm in the bank did not set off immediately.
The Fire Brigade were also called to deal with the incident and the police cordoned off the centre of Bow Street in order to deal with the remaining “volatile substance”. As yet the police have not released a formal statement on the incident but we will update you when they do.
