Prime Minister agrees to dredging

At Prime Minister’s questions this lunchtime David Cameron confirmed that funding would be found to enable dredging on the Somerset Levels. On a day when the e-petition calling for dredging closed with over 5,000 signatures the initiative finally seems to be swinging behind a solution. It is of course a tragedy that it has taken not one but two major flooding events to get attention and action. However at last there is a plan being put together by local councils, farmers groups and the drainage boards to present to Owen Paterson within the next 6 weeks. Only once that is submitted and agreed by the Secretary of State, will people in Somerset have clarity about the commitment to fixing the problem of flooding for once and for all.
